The carnival takes place in towns and villages all over Brazil and other Catholic countries, but Rio de Janeiro is seen as the Carnival Capital of the world. Zhang Li, a friend of my sister’s, wants to be an English teacher when she grows up. Last year she volunteered at a primary school. She taught the kids to sing English songs, read the English books and organized an English club (to hold all kinds of activities). To her joy, she found her spoken English greatly improved. What’s more, she used to be shy (and afraid of speaking English in public). But she is quite outgoing and good at making speeches these days.

In my opinion, she has found a great way of learning English, that is, by using it and helping others. As a volunteer, not only can we experience exciting things but also get a lot. Helping itself is learning.

(第II卷听力)

听短文,记录关键信息,短文读三遍。

Good morning! Boys and girls,

Please be quiet! I’ll tell you something about our school library rules.

First of all, children in Grade 1 are allowed to borrow one book a week. Students in Grade 2 and up are allowed to borrow 2 books a week.

Secondly, books are kept for about a week; however the school is on a 5-day cycle. Books are due on the cycle day. A book borrowed on Day I is due on the next day 1, even if it is not the same day of the week.

Thirdly, our computer system does not allow us to renew books, so they must be returned and checked out again. We ask students to return their books at the beginning of the day with their bookmark or library card inside and sticking out. We will check the book in and put it aside for the student to get when he returns with his class.

Fourthly, there are no fines for students. However students who have an overdue book may not borrow another book.

Finally, if you lose a book, you should pay for it. Since it will probably cost more to replace the book than we originally paid, we will charge you the full replacement cost, including tax and other costs.

If you have any questions, please tell me. Thank you for listening.
